LOCAL GUIDE / ADDRESS & ACCESS

A Decatur address. Which entrance?

The postal city gives a useful starting point. The property, unit and actual door make the request specific.

The historic DeKalb County Courthouse in Decatur, Georgia.

A mailing name is not a municipal boundary.

The City of Decatur explains that a Decatur mailing address can belong to a property outside its municipal limits in unincorporated DeKalb County. That distinction matters when someone is arranging work from an address copied from a lease, message or map result.

Begin with the complete street address, including unit or suite. Do not treat a ZIP code, a short house number or the nearest recognizable landmark as definitive proof of jurisdiction. Where the boundary matters, use the city’s official mapping information and the appropriate address/parcel lookup.

The property is only the first layer.

Once the address is clear, identify the affected entrance. A front porch, side door and private unit door are different locations. A building’s shared entrance may also have different hardware and a different person responsible for approving changes.

For a residential request, say whether the caller is the owner, tenant or another authorized person. For a business, identify the suite and whether the door is used by the occupier alone or shared with other premises.

  • Full street address
  • Unit or suite, if applicable
  • Front, rear, side or common entrance
  • Responsible person for that door

Use the district to clarify, not replace, the address.

West Ponce, the Old Depot District and East Decatur Station have their own business contexts. Oakhurst Village is associated with East Lake Drive and Oakview Road. These references can help explain which part of town someone means, but none identifies a specific authorized doorway.

A customer-facing storefront entrance may be different from the rear door involved in a key handover. If you are discussing business access, state which entrance and who controls it rather than relying on a shop name alone.

Put the key request next to the door description.

If the objective is changing who can enter, list the doors and keys involved. If a key or latch is sticking, explain what happens with the door open and closed. A mechanical symptom is a different issue from wanting old keys to stop working.

The rekeying guide explains that distinction. For properties within a historic district, the responsible owner should check any applicable requirements before replacing hardware; a district name alone does not determine the condition or treatment of a lock.

A note you can prepare before calling.

“The full address is ____. The affected door is ____. It is private/shared. I am authorized through ____. The key currently ____. We want ____.” This is a prompt for your own notes, not information you need to post publicly.

Then call LockReach and establish availability for the actual property, the proposed work and the estimate. For a parked vehicle, use the separate vehicle-location guide: a garage entrance and level are often more useful than a building’s postal address.
